Anesthesia for procedures on eye.

A rapid-acting anesthetic used ophthalmically. Anesthesia is produced by the interference of the nerve cell membrane's permeability to sodium ions subsequently blocking the conduction of electrical stimulation and preventing generation of the action potential .

Onset of action: Within 20 seconds of instillation
Duration: ~10-20 minutes.(UTD)

Serious:
Ophthalmic: Conjunctival hemorrhage, Corneal erosion, Cycloplegia (rare ), Passive conjunctival congestion

Short corneal and conjunctival procedures: Instill 1 drop in eye(s) every 5-10 minutes for 5-7 doses
Tonometry, gonioscopy, suture removal: Instill 1-2 drops in eye(s) just prior to procedure

Children and Adolescents: Refer to adult dosing(UTD)
