Treatment of external genital and perianal warts/condyloma acuminata, nonhyperkeratotic, nonhypertrophic actinic keratosis on face or scalp; superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC) with a maximum tumor diameter of 2 cm located on the trunk, neck, or extremities (excluding hands or feet)

The mechanism of action of imiquimod in the treatment of actinic keratosis, superficial basal cell carcinomas, and external genital warts is unknown. With topical application to the skin, imiquimod activates immune cells through Toll-like receptor 7, leading to increased markers for cytokines and immune cells.

Tmax: approximately 9 hours; Rena excretionl: 0.08% to 2.41%; Elimination Half Life: 20-24.1hr.

Erythema, peeling of skin, skin reaction - finding, superficial ulcer of skin

Condyloma acuminatum: apply 5% cream TOPICALLY to affected area at bedtime for 3 times a week for up to 16 weeks; leave on skin for 6-10 hrs. Actinic keratosis: apply to defined treatment area 2 times per week at bedtime for 16 weeks; leave on skin for 8 hours. Superficial basal cell carcinoma: apply TOPICALLY to defined treatment area 5 times per week at bedtime for 6 weeks; leave on skin for 8 hours.
