Brimonidine tartrate is an alpha adrenergic receptor agonist. Fluorophotometric studies in animal and humans suggest that brimonidine has a dual mechanism of action by reducing aqueous humor production and increasing uveoscleral outflow.

After ocular administration, Onset: 1 hr; Peak effect: 2 hrs; Elimination half-life: approximately 3 hrs

Hypersensitivity to brimonidine tartrate or any component of this medication, patients receiving monoamine oxidase(MAO) inhibitor therapy.

Adverse events occurring in approximately 10-20% : allergic conjunctivitis, conjunctival hyperemia, and eye pruritus; in approximately 5-9% : burning sensation, conjunctival folliculosis, hypertension, oral dryness, and visual disturbance.

Install one drop of Alphagan P in the affected eye(s) three times daily, approximately 8 hours apart.
