Hemorrhagic snake bite therapy: Tr. mucrosquamatus and Tr. gramineus.

Antivenin is a refined and concentrated preparation of serum globulins obtained by fractionating blood from healthy horses immunized with various snake venoms. These globulins react and neutralize the venom of various snakes.

Known hypersensitivity to horse serum (unless benefit outweighs risk) and never administer prophylactically to asymptomatic patients.

Fetal risk cannot be ruled out.

Infant risk cannot be ruled out.

Allergic reaction: hives, itching, redness; wheezing, trouble breathing; feeling light-headed; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Antivenin should be given within 4 hours of the envenomation, if possible. If given after 8 hours, it is less effective. Initially dose: 1 dose (10ml), depending on the size of the snake, the lapse of the time between the bite and specific treatment, and the condition of the patient. Within 2hrs and/or without systemic syndrome: 1/2 of the dose injected SC on the surroundings of the site of bite, the other 1/2 dose injected IM. 2hrs later and/or have systemic syndrome: most of the dose IV injection (IV rate: the first 1ml must be administered over a period of at least 5 minutes, there after must not exceed 1ml/min), the little residual dose inject SC on the surrounding of the site of bite. Repeat injections of 1 dose every 1/2 to 2hrs if pain and active swelling persist.

Intially dose: double dose (20ml) for age less than 10.

The drug is stored between 2 and 8 degrees C. Use reconstituted solution within 2 hours
