Antibiotic, Penicillin

Amoxicillin:
Distribution: poor cerebrospinal fluid penetration.
Protein binding: ~20%.
Half-life elimination: 61.3 minutes.
Time to peak: 1 to 2 hours.
Excretion: Urine.
Clavulanic acid:
Distribution: 0.368 ± 0.014 L/kg.
Protein binding: ~25%.
Half-life elimination: 1 hour.
Time to peak: 1.5 hours.
Excretion: Urine.

Hypersensitivity to β-lactams (penicillins, cephalosporins); history of jaundice/hepatic dysfunction associated with AUGMENTIN or penicillin.

>10%: diarrhea (3% to 34%).
<10%: rash, nausea (2% to 3%), vomiting (1% to 2%), vaginal mycosis (3%), vaginitis (1%), abdominal distress, flatulence, thrombocytosis, headache.

Bite wound infection: 5 mL every 12 hours. For prophylaxis, duration is 3 to 5 days; for treatment of established infection, duration is typically 5 to 14 days.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute exacerbation: 5 mL every 12 hours for 5 to 7 days.
Diabetic foot infection: 5 mL every 12 hours for 7 to 12 days.
Intra-abdominal infection:
Diverticulitis, acute: 5 mL every 8 hours for 4 to 5 days.
Other intra-abdominal infection: 5 mL 2 to 3 times daily for 4 to 5 days.
Odontogenic infection: 5 mL every 12 hours for 5 to 14 days.
Otitis media: 5 mL every 12 hours for 5 to 10 days.
Peritonsillar cellulitis or abscess: 5 mL every 12 hours for 14 days.
Pneumonia: 5 mL every 12 hours for 5 days.
Rhinosinusitis: 5 mL every 12 hours for 5 to 7 days.
Urinary tract infection: 5 mL every 12 hours for 10 to 14 days.

Infants, Children, and Adolescents: 25 to 45 mg amoxicillin/kg/day in divided doses every 12 hours; maximum daily dose: 1,750 mg/day.

CrCl ≥ 30 mL/min: no dosage adjustment necessary.
CrCl <30 mL/min: not recommended for use.
