Caspofungin is an echinocandid anti-fungal agent, which inhibit the synthesis of (1,3)-D-glucan in fungal cell membranes. This action leads to cell lysis and death

Caspofungin plasma protein bound is about 97%; extensively distributed into tissues; slowly metabolized by hydrolysis and N-acetylation. Less than 2% is excreted unchanged in urine. Elimination half-life is 9-11hrs.

Headache (up to 11%), fever (3% to 26%), chills (up to 14%), infusion site reactions (2% to 12%), phlebitis/thrombophlebitis (up to 16%), decreases in hemoglobin (12%) flushing (2.9%).

70mg loading dose, then 50mg/day. Infuse doses over 1hr.
Do not mix with dextrose-containing solutions.
In moderate hepatic impairment, give 35mg/day after 70mg loading dose; no experience exists in severe hepatic impairment.
