Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic originally isolated from Streptomyces venezuelae. It is primarily bacteriostatic and acts by inhibition of protein synthesis by interfering with the transfer of activated amino acids from soluble RNA to ribosomes.

副作用
Blood dyscrasias may be associated with the systemic use of chloramphenicol. Rare cases of aplastic anemia, bone marrow hypoplasia, and death have been reported with prolonged ( months to years) or frequent intermittent( over months and years) use of ocular chloramphenicol solution.

instill 1 or 2 drops in the affected eye(s) 4 to 6 times a day for the first 72 hours, depending upon the severity of the condition. After the first 48 hours, the dosing interval may be increased. Treatment should be continued for 48 hours after the eye(s) appears normal.
