Flunarizine selectively blocks calcium entry into cells, but only when the influx of calcium is stimulated to enter cells in excess amounts, and has little effect on calcium homeostasis under normal conditions.

Bioavailability: Greater than 80% absorbed. Distribution- Protein Binding: Greater than 99%; Volume of Distribution: 43.2 to 78 L/kg. Metabolism - Liver, extensive. Excretion- Renal Excretion: Less than 1%; Feces: 3% to 5%. Elimination Half-life: 5 hours to 23 days.

Patient hypersensitive to flunarizine or cinnarizine; history of depression; pre-existing extrapyramidal symptoms

Fetal risk cannot be ruled out. [MDX]

Infant risk can not be ruled out.

Drowsiness, headache, insomnia, nausea, dry mouth.

Migraine, headache prophylaxis and peripheral vascular disease: PO 10mg daily as a single dose. Vertigo: PO 20mg TID.
