Treatment of anorexia,cachexia or unexplained significant weight loss in AIDs or cancer patients.

Megestrol is a synthetic progestin with anti-estrogenic properties.The exact mechanism of action for its clinical use in endometrial cancer and as appetite-enhancing agent in cachexia remains unknown. It may stimulate appetite via neuropeptide Y in CNS,and may down -regulate the synthesis and release of pro-inflammatory cytokine,e.g. TNF-α,IL-1,and IL-6.

The absorption of Megestrol oral suspension is well.It is metabolized completely in liver to free steroids and glucuronide conjugates.57% to 78% as steroid metabolites and inactive compounds were excreted in urine,and other excreted in feces between 8% and 30%.Elimination Half-Life:15 to 100 hours.

History of hypersensitivity to megestrol acetate,known or suspected pregnancy.

Edema,hypertension,insomnia,headache,rash,alopecia,hyperglycemia,adrenal insufficiency,weight gain,flatulence,diarrhea,and impotence.

400mg∼800mg/day. Shake well before use.It is compatible with water,orange juice or apple juice.
