Stimulation of follicle maturation in infertile women

Menopur contains highly purified menotrophin (human menopausal gonadotrophin, HMG) corresponding to 75 I.U. FSH and 75 I.U. LH. When administered for 7 to 20 days, Menopur produces ovarian follicular growth and maturation in women who do not have primary ovarian failure. When sufficient follicular maturation has occurred, human chorionic gonadotropin must be given to induce ovulation.

The SC route of administration trends toward greater bioavailability than the IM route for single and multiple doses of Menopur, The elimination half-lives for FSH in the multiple-dose phase were similar (11-13 hours) for Menopur SC and IM injection.

hypersensitivity to one of the components in the product, pregnancy; lactation; premature menopause; primary ovarian failure; ovarian cyst not due to polycystic ovary syndrome; gynecological bleeding of undetermined origin; hypergonadotropic ovarian insufficiency; hyperprolactinaemia; endocrinopathy of thyroidal or adrenal origin; ovarian, uterine or breast carcinoma; pituitary gland or hypothalamus tumor.

Menopur is administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously and in general, the therapy is begun with a daily dosage of corresponding to 75 - 150 I.U (1 - 2 vials Menopur). If there is no ovarian reaction, the dose can be gradually increased until there is evidence of estradiol secretion or follicular growth.
