Expectorant

Ambroxol is an active N-desmethyl metabolite of the mucolytic bromhexine. Ambroxol is used as an expectorant and mucolytic in the treatment of pulmonary disorders such as bronchitis and pulmonary infections to facilitate the removal of secretions from the lungs.

Absorption: Rapid and complete; Bioavailability: 70% to 80%; Metabolism: Extensive hepatic metabolism; Excretion: Urine (90%; <10% as unchanged drug)

Hypersensitivity to ambroxol or components.

B; Avoid use in the first trimester

Ambroxol is excreted in breast milk. Breast-feeding is not recommended.
 

Dry mouth, diarrhea, constipation, nausea and vomiting, and sialorrhea , rash and contact dermatitis.

Adults: daily dose of 30 mg (one Ambroxol tablet ) to 120 mg (4 Ambroxol tablets) taken in 2 to 3 divided doses.

Children up to 2 years: half a teaspoonful Ambroxol syrup twice daily; Children 2 - 5 years: half a teaspoonful Ambroxol syrup 3 times daily; Children over 5 years: One teaspoonful Ambroxol syrup 2-3 times daily.
