Pruritus, eczema, urticaria, appetite stimulant, migraine headache.

Cyproheptadine is a first generation antihistamine and a serotonin antagonist. It has potent antihistaminic and serotonin antagonist properties; the drug also has anticholinergic and sedative effects and reportedly has calcium-channel blocking activity.

It is well absorbed following oral administration. It is not known if the drug is distributed into milk. The drug appears to be almost completely metabolized, principally to the quaternary ammonium glucuronide conjugate and are excreted principally in urine, almost completely as conjugates. Elimination of cyproheptadine is reduced in renal insufficiency.

Patient with glaucoma; it should not be prescribed for elderly debilitated.

Avoided, significant level present in breast milk and maternal prolactin level found decreased.

Dry mouth, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea and irritability.

Allergy: 4 mg TID (Max 0.5 mg/kg/day)
Stimulation of appetite: 2-4 mg TID or QID

Allergy:
(1) 2- 6 yrs: 2 mg BID or TID (Max 12mg/day)
(2) 7-14 yrs: 4 mg BID or TID (Max 16 mg/day)
Stimulation of appetite:
(1) 2-6 yrs: 2 mg BID or TID (Max. 8 mg/day)
