止咳口服 Benzonatate is an antitussive agent with local anesthetic properties. Benzonatate is utilized for the symptomatic relief of cough.

Benzonatate is an effective antitussive and an alternative to opioid antitussives, such as codeine. It appears to have a more sustained cough-suppressing effect than many other antitussives.

The onset of therapeutic effect is within 15 to 20 minutes; the duration of antitussive effect is 3 to 8 hours.

Benzonatate is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the drug. Use with caution in children less than 10 years of age.
