Choline salicylate is rapidly absorbed through the oral mucosa. Animal studies have shown that after application of this medication to the oral mucosa, salicylate can be detected in the blood within approximately 5 to 15 minutes. Salicylate easily binds to proteins in the blood and is distributed throughout the body. This component is secreted into breast milk and can cross the placenta. The plasma elimination half-life of salicylates is approximately 2 to 3 hours. Pregnant women over 30 weeks of gestation should avoid use.Pregnant women between 20 to 30 weeks of gestation should only use this medication if deemed necessary by a physician, and the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration should be used. If treatment exceeds 48 hours, ultrasound monitoring of amniotic fluid may be required.Pregnant women under 20 weeks of gestation and women who may be pregnant should consult a physician or pharmacist before use.
